Dolch Word Lists
These
lists consist of the 220 most common words and 95 additional nouns found in
most children’s reading books. They are
in alphabetical order.
Dolch
words or sight words provide an excellent base for reading at an early
age. They are often called sight words
because some of them cannot be sounded out and need to be learned by sight.
Please
note that all Dolch words can be taught before children attend or complete
grade one in school. Words in the second
and third level lists are more common in reading books for children in the age
groups of second and third grade.
However, they do appear in books for earlier grades but less frequently.
